The Sardine Can Hoodie

Fit and Sizing: Balance 4/5

The Gildan 18500 Hoodie features a 'classic' fit, designed to offer a comfortable, yet roomy feel. It tends to run slightly smaller than expected, for example, I am a standard large size in most hoodies, the hoodie was just slightly undersized in comparison. When ordering the extra large, I found that shrinking it in the wash led to a perfect fit. I suppose what I am getting at here is to always measure before you order your premium hoodies!

Medium-Heavy Fabric: Balancing Comfort and Durability 4/5

The hoodie is quite sofit inside, like fleece. Constructed from 8.0 oz/yd² (271 g/m²) fabric, this hoodie strikes a balance between warmth and comfort. It is composed of a blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, offering a soft and durable material that promises longevity. The black test hoodie for this blog has now surpassed five washes and has not faded or 'thinned'. Keep in mind that there may be slight variations in fiber content among different colors, for example, heather colours tend to have a higher polyester content. But the quality seems to remain consistent. As for the fabric, I would consider this hoodie to sit inside the range of medium-heavy, it is not as heavy as say the Champion Powerblend, but it is heavier than a standard or light athletic hoodie.

Care Instructions: Easy Maintenance 5/5

Maintaining your Gildan 18500 Hoodie is straightforward. Follow these basic guidelines to keep it in excellent condition:

  • Machine wash: Use warm water (max 40°C or 105°F) to preserve the fabric's integrity.
  • Bleach as needed: While generally unnecessary, bleach can be used when required.
  • Tumble dry: Opt for medium heat to prevent any potential damage.
  • Iron, steam, or dry: Use low heat to avoid any heat-related issues.
  • Do not dry clean: The hoodie's easy-care fabric makes dry cleaning unnecessary.

Sustainability Through Manufacturing 5/5

An interesting aspect of the Gildan 18500 Hoodie's production is its innovative manufacturing process. It is knitted in one piece using a tubular knit method, reducing fabric waste and enhancing the hoodie's visual appeal. This approach contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production process. With that, I will have to lean in a little bit considering the obvious points given for being eco-friendly. They also use these efforts in their t-shirts, which you can read about here.
